The right lens for the right question.

There is no single formula for effective philanthropy.

My approach is outcomes-oriented rather than tied to any single framework. Different problems require different ways of thinking.

For challenges where interventions can be compared across large populations and settings—such as aspects of global health, poverty alleviation and pandemic preparedness—I find the discipline of Effective Altruism particularly valuable. Its focus on evidence, scale, cost-effectiveness, neglectedness and additional impact provides a rigorous way to assess both priorities and potential solutions.

In other areas—such as homelessness, addiction recovery or community development—outcomes may depend more heavily on local institutions, relationships, implementation capacity and community context. There, local knowledge, lived experience and trust may matter as much as what the data alone can tell us.

I don’t see these approaches as competing philosophies. The key is judgment: matching the approach to the problem while remaining rigorous about evidence, opportunity cost and results.

That’s the perspective I bring to my work with clients.
